Derreck is a sensitive soul looking for a patient and understanding family that will give him the love and time he needs to feel brave.
This sweet boy absolutely loves people, his favorite spot to spend the day will be on the couch watching a movie and cuddling next to his people. He can be nervous in the big wide world and really prefers the comfort of his safe spaces. Although he is so gentle, he is quite a big boy so will need an active and confident family that can manage his size and his young energetic nature when he does his zoomies in the yard.
Derreck might prefer a family where his humans can be home regularly, or possibly even work from home some of the time.
Derreck is quite fearful of other dogs, so will not be suitable to be taken to high traffic areas where lots of dogs frequent. He will prefer leisurely strolls in his familiar neighborhood with his humans who can help him to feel safe.
He will need a family that can be committed to ongoing confidence building, so Derreck can slowly learn that the world isn't so scary. Slow and steady will be the pace for this boy, as he learns about the ins and outs of the world.

Cats - If you wish to adopt a cat you are welcome to visit both our Wingfield and Edinburgh North locations between 10am and 3pm, Tuesday to Sunday.
Dogs - If you wish to adopt a dog, you are welcome to visit our Wingfield location between 10am and 3pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Dog adoptions from Edinburgh North are by application only. Please fill out the application form on the dog's profile and wait for our staff to contact you.

Once you have met an animal you would like to adopt, you can take them home the same day as all AWL animals are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and health checked ready for their new home (yes, even the kittens and puppies!)
