As a not-for-profit organisation the AWL operates as the state's largest animal shelter with more than 7,000 incoming animals a year. Our purpose is to re-home lost, surrendered and abandoned animals with our staff committed to our mission of connecting pets, people and community.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As an Animal and Customer Care Attendant you will provide high quality care and support to all animals and internal and external customers. This will include performing tasks such as but not limited to:
- Cleaning enclosures, feeding, exercising and monitoring animals.
- Monitor and report on animal health and welfare.
- Assist with handling of animals upon intake or adoption.
- Report animals in need of urgent care and/or general veterinary treatment.
- Ensure accurate documentation is completed for all animals in an efficient manner including entering data into organisational systems, microchip company databases e.g. DACO or any other specified programs.
- Efficiently answer and manage inbound telephone calls and emails in a timely manner, with minimal wait times.
- Liaise with internal and external customers such as volunteers, contractors, council officers, vets and other departments as required.
- Coordinating and processing ID trace, lost and found, animal adoptions, booking veterinary services appointments, cremations, surrenders and intake of animals.
- Attending to AWL frontline customer service and telephone enquiries.
Please note, these are casual roles and days/hours will vary according to business needs. Applicants must be available to work over seven (7) days and this includes public holidays, weekends and peak holiday periods and leave absences. Travel will be required between Wingfield and Edinburgh North sites.

We are seeking individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment, have effective time management skills, can prioritise their workload, have strong attention to detail and are able to proactively develop solutions.
You will also uphold the AWL beliefs and behaviours, work collaboratively and cooperatively with others and provide an exemplary customer-centric service provision.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in an Animal Welfare facility, Boarding Centre or related field is preferred.
- Certificate II in Animal Studies qualification is desirable.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Some flexibility with working hours will be required. This includes working across a seven (7) day week, public holidays, peak holiday periods and if required covering shifts for leave absences.
- Travel may be required across AWL sites and other locations.
- A current driver’s licence is required.
- Applicants must be functionally assessed to ensure physical ability to complete the physical demands of the position.
- Satisfactory National Police Clearance Certificate / National Police Check (NPC) at commencement of employment and periodically at the request of AWL.
