What would you do if you found four helpless puppies huddled together in a hole they’d dug to keep warm? Cold, hungry, and afraid - left to survive on their own - would you show them kindness?
You would wrap them in your love and compassion and be the reason their worried eyes sparkle again.
It was early one chilly morning when two kind-hearted locals stumbled upon Dasher, Prancer, Blitzen, and Rudolph – four abandoned ridgeback x puppies. Frightened and alone, it was clear that these three-month-old puppies were hungry and struggling to stay warm. The kind locals who found them did just what you would have done; they wrapped them in love and immediately called the council for help.
When they arrived at our shelter the team examined the puppies and saw that they were underweight and likely hadn’t eaten in a while. Kirsten, Foster Care Coordinator, said “These poor little pups looked smaller than they should for their age – without enough food, they can struggle to do basic things because of their lack of energy and nutrients, as well as experience developmental issues. It also affects their immunity and growth, and slows down their recovery from illness. We made sure they got the nutrition they needed, so they could catch up on their immunity and balance their systems again.”
It takes time, patience, vet treatment, yummy food, and a gentle hand to look after growing young puppies. But seeing the delight in their eyes as they discover the joy of a soft bed and the safety of a loving home makes it all worth it.
