Veterinary Nurse

We're looking for a Veterinary Nurse to join our team.

This is a full time position until 27 August 2023.

ABOUT US

A South Australia where every pet has a loving home is Animal Welfare League of South Australia Inc. (AWL) vision and this is achieved through valuing the lives of people and pets and encouraging a community that values the human-animal bond for mutual wellbeing and enrichment.

As a not-for-profit organisation AWL operates as the state's largest animal shelter with more than 7,000 incoming animals a year. Our purpose is to re-home lost, surrendered, and abandoned animals with our staff committed to our mission of connecting pets, people and community.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an opportunity to be part of one of the most dynamic and supportive shelter veterinary teams in South Australia. We provide critical services to 7000 animals each year that arrive into our care by ensuring the health and welfare needs are met and are of the highest standards.

  • Surgery shifts see Nurses assist Veterinarians with important procedures for our animals to be adoption ready. These including desexing, dentals, radiology and major surgeries in a brand-new clinic and surgical theatre suite.

  • Medical shifts involve assisting with the monitoring the health of the shelter population and the work up of complex cases. We do not offer veterinary services to the public, so interaction with clients is limited to foster care consultations only.

  • Intake shifts include assisting with medical assessments for each arriving animal and providing treatments to protect them against disease and help them start their path of rehabilitation to overcome injuries or sickness.

We encourage our nurses to be empowered, skilled and knowledgeable whilst also maintaining high levels of care and compassion. There are always opportunities to learn and you will be continually supported by our diverse and caring team.

You’ll have the opportunity to play an integral role in every animal’s journey. Our nursing staff provide a caring and gentle hand to help our animals grow, recover and thrive as they look for their new forever homes. Nothing beats the great feeling you get from helping stray and abandoned animals that otherwise would have been on the streets.

This is a full-time role working 37.5 hr per week until the 27 August 2023 with weekend work required.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a qualified and experienced veterinary nurse with a wide and varied set of skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone who has:
