Adopting your new dog
So, you’re ready to adopt a dog – how exciting! Here's our guide to help you find the right dog for your home and lifestyle.
Step 1: Consider what you're looking for in your future dog
Think about the lifestyle and home life you'll be able to offer your new friend. Some things to think about are:
- How much time will you have to spend with your dog?
- Are you looking for an active puppy or relaxed older dog?
- Does anyone in your home have allergies or other needs to consider?
- Do you have time for your new dog's grooming needs?
- Do you already have pets and how will you introduce them to your new friend?
- Do you have time to dedicate to training a dog?
- How much space do you have in your home and yard?
- Do you have the time and ability to provide the necessary exercise and enrichment?
Step 2: Check out the available dogs
Now that you know what type of dog might fit pawfectly into your family, take a look at the profiles of the dogs who are currently looking for their furever homes!
Step 3: Make a plan to meet the dog
Before you adopt, you'll need to meet the dog to make sure you hit it off! Take note of where the dog is located on their profile. Once you know which shelter they're at, you can begin making plans to meet them. Depending on where they're located, the process to meet them will be a bit different.
If the dog is at our Wingfield location (and isn't available by application only), you are welcome to visit us at any time at 1-19 Cormack Road, Wingfield between 10 am and 3 pm from Tuesday to Sunday. Be sure to bring anyone else in the home with you – everyone's got to love their new furbaby as much as you do! If they're the purrfect match and you're ready to take them home, let our team know. You can adopt your newest family member that very same day. How exciting! Otherwise, if you need some time to think about it, prepare your home or bring other family members down, you can place the dog on a 24-hour hold to make sure no one else adopts them before you do.
If the dog is listed as 'Application Only', you will need to fill out the adoption application form on their profile and wait for a member of our team to contact you. Depending on the number of applications received, this can take up to 14 days.
Please do not try to visit the dog until you have heard back from our team.
Step 4: Take them home!
It's time for you and your pet to start your new life together. To set you up for success, your new best friend has been desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea-treated and wormed, meaning all you need to worry about is giving them the love they deserve. Best of all, as a thank you for giving a dog in need a second chance at love, you'll receive 10 per cent off everything at our Pet Shop which is stocked up with everything you could possibly need to help them settle in.
Thank you for opening your heart and your home to an animal in need 💙
