Doggy Day Out

Take a dog on a Doggy Day Out!

Give one of our dogs some time away from the shelter by taking them on their very own Doggy Day Out.

Our Doggy Day Out program was designed to give shelter dogs some time away from the shelter, allowing them to experience different sights, sounds and smells while they wait to be adopted into their forever families. Some common outings can include taking them on a hike, a trip to a park or a day out at the beach - anything that will help them burn some energy and get their tails wagging!

It's also a great opportunity for anyone who would love to help a shelter dog without having to commit to adopting them. Not only do you get to spend quality time with a dog, you get to enrich their life in the process! Taking them on outings (even short ones) gets them away from the stresses of the shelter and exposes them to all the wonderful things life has to offer. Best of all, these experiences lead to quicker adoptions for the dogs in the program, meaning more happy pups in loving families 💙

If you'd like to be a part of our Doggy Day Out Program and enrich the lives of some shelter dogs, fill out the form below and follow the prompts to book your day out!

Frequently asked questions about our Doggy Day Out program:

What is a Doggy Day Out?

A Doggy Day Out is taking a dog out of the shelter for a small period of time for a little adventure! Unfortunately, not everyone can have a dog, so a Doggy Day Out is the perfect opportunity to get your dog fix or puppy cuddles while at the same time getting a dog out of the shelter for a few hours. If the outing went well and you would like to have the dog to have a sleepover at yours, this is also possible - just chat to the team when you pick them up!

What are the benefits of a Doggy Day Out?

Doggy Days Out have proven to reduce stress and increase positive behaviours in participating shelter dogs. This makes them more adoptable and speeds up their rehoming process. Other positive factors included increased morale among shelter workers and participants, increased adoptions and increased foster carer and volunteer numbers.

Is there an age limit on who can take a dog on a Doggy Day Out?

Participants must be 18 or over to take a dog on a Doggy Day Out. Underage participants (10+) are welcome to come along with parent/guardian, but they cannot be responsible for the holding the leash. Please notify us upon arrival if there are children participating so that we can partner you up with an appropriate canine companion.

Can I bring my children on the Doggy Day Out?

Children are welcome to come along on a Doggy Day Out, but please keep in mind it is very important for volunteers to give their full attention to the dog - it's their day out after all! Additionally, the dogs range in size from small to large and some can be strong pullers - who wouldn’t be excited to stretch their paws after being in a shelter?

Do I need to bring anything on the day?

All you need to bring is yourself, a form of identification and a willingness to have some fun! Beyond that, we supply everything the dog needs: water, water bowl, treats, poo bags, a lead and food for an overnight stay if needed.

Can I bring my own dog?

You aren't able to bring your own dog on a Doggy Day Out. We want to make sure each Doggy Day Out is as fun as possible for the shelter dogs, and adding an extra dog to the equation may cause stress and anxiety in some of the dogs participating in the program.
