What would be your first thought if you had found Laya all alone? Would you leap into action and give her the second chance she deserves?
Laya was found by compassionate strangers, abandoned and alone at a busy shopping centre in Adelaide’s north. They did what any animal lover would have done: they wrapped her in love and promised her a better life.
No one had shown Laya love in a long time. She was skinny and malnourished with infected and inflamed mammary glands and she desperately needed eye surgery. Her condition indicated she had recently had puppies, but they were nowhere to be found. Despite her physical pain and mental anguish over being separated from her puppies, Laya trusted our vet team enough to let them nurse her back to health. It was enduring compassion from caring supporters that gave Laya the urgent veterinary care she needed.
The vet, Dr Michelle said “She was initially quiet and shut down, but you just knew she was desperate for love. She warmed up to all the staff at AWL so quickly, and within a day of being here she was wagging her tail and her whole body.”
If you’re able, please consider making a kind gift today to provide love and care for animals like Laya.
Today, thanks to the generosity of animal lovers like you, Laya is becoming more confident each day and she enjoys giving out love to anyone she meets. She loves leaning against people for snuggles and wags her whole body when she sees her friends.
Thanks to the kindness of people like you, Laya’s story, once shrouded in shadows, is now a beacon of resilience and a testament to the incredible power of love. Compassion from animal lovers like you has given her a second chance at a life of boundless potential. Teaching these dogs how to trust isn’t easy – it takes time, patience, veterinary treatment, yummy food and a gentle, loving hand. But seeing the delight in their eyes as they discover the joy of a soft bed and the safety of a loving home makes it all worth it.
It will take time for Laya to fully recover and find a forever family. But she knows she can count on you to care for her until the very moment she leaves AWL.
There are hundreds of animals in our shelter at the moment. It’s a struggle to care for them in the way need to us to. A donation from you today will make sure no animal goes without the food, shelter and vet care they need. The love, of course, is free!
Will you open your heart and show your love for animals in need?
