From the top of her little head, over her back, all the way to her tail, Yabby had suffered painful thermal burns, likely caused by a car engine. As a result of her extensive burns, some of Yabby’s skin had turned necrotic and needed to be removed.

The vet team leapt into action, carefully removing the dead and dying tissue in surgery. Without immediate treatment, it would have created a massive source of infection, putting her at risk of sepsis or a life-threatening blood clot. With wounds this extensive, there was also a very real danger of life-threatening protein loss.
Lexi, the vet who cared for Yabby, still remembers the days following Yabby's surgery,
"One of our biggest concerns was the amount of dead skin that had to be removed from her head. For a few days after surgery, the tightness of the repair meant she couldn't fully close her eyes - something we monitored constantly. Thankfully, as swelling settled and healing progressed, this resolved." - AWL Vet, Lexi.
Yabby became a regular patient in our vet clinic, visiting often to have her bandages refreshed, skin staples replaced and removed, and additional procedures to remove newly necrotised skin.
