Back in March, you may have met Spring – the sweet girl who was severely underweight by the time help finally found her.

Today she goes by the name Suzi, and we thought you might like an update on how she’s doing now.

Being as underweight as Suzi was life-threatening, because when a dog is starving, their body starts breaking down muscle and organs for energy. In desperate need of veterinary treatment and loving care, it was clear that Suzi had been searching for safety and kindness for a very long time.

Thanks to the kindness and compassion of animal-lovers like you, Suzi’s story did not end there.

Recently, we took a little road trip to visit Suzi and her new parents, Dave and Linda, at their home near the beautiful Murray River. Far away from the noise and uncertainty Suzi once knew, she’s now living in a peaceful riverside town where she is safe, loved and truly relaxing into life.

Seeing Suzi now is nothing short of extraordinary.

“She used to curl up like a croissant, but you can see she’s softened now and rolls over in her sleep, showing her belly,” Linda shared.

Like every animal who comes through our doors, Suzi deserved the chance to experience comfort, security and unconditional love. Because of caring people like you, she now has exactly that – a wonderful future filled with gentle routines, patient love and the warmth of a family who adores her.

She’s learned what ‘tea-time’ and ‘walk’ mean, and just loves her jacket!

There is no doubt Suzi has found her perfect family.

Dave and Linda shared how much progress Suzi has already made, especially with rebuilding trust after everything she has endured. Suzi now enjoys neighbourhood walks with her dad and, with patience and understanding, she is overcoming her fear of men.

“Each day we’re slowly seeing progress with her, and we’re happy because that hopefully means lasting change,” Linda shared.

Linda also told us about a family visit, where Suzi formed a beautiful bond with their daughter.

“We’d often find them lying quietly on the floor alongside each other,” Linda said.

Moments like these may seem simple, but for a dog who once knew fear and uncertainty, they are truly life-changing.

Suzi’s new home is every bit as wonderful as she deserves. She has her own special place on the couch and a beautiful big backyard featuring what Dave and Linda like to call her racetrack – this is where she races around doing joyful zoomies. Another one of her favourite past times is stretching out in sunny patches on the lawn.

At the end of a big day on the racetrack and sunning on the lawn, Suzi will go and get Dave to tuck her in – “happy as Larry in her safe space and fluffy blanket”.

Suzi’s beautiful new life has only been made possible thanks to caring people like you!
