Yabby's brave new beginning
Back in March, you may have met Yabby – the brave little cat whose fur and skin were peeling from her body in clumps.
When Yabby was found, she had severe thermal burns from the top of her head, all the way to her tail – likely caused by a car engine. She was alone and in urgent need of veterinary treatment and loving care. It was clear that Yabby had been searching for safety and kindness for some time.
Thanks to the kindness and compassion of animal-lovers like you, Yabby's story did not end there.
Recently, we visited Yabby and her new mum, Lisa, at their home. Far away from the danger and uncertainty Yabby once knew, she’s now living in a comfortable home where she is safe, loved and truly relaxing into life.

Seeing Yabby now is nothing short of extraordinary.
“She likes sleeping on my lap and follows me around. I can’t even go to the bathroom by myself without her pushing the door open!” Lisa shared.
Like every animal who comes through our doors, Yabby deserved the chance to experience comfort, safety and unconditional love. Because of caring people like you, she now has exactly that – a wonderful future filled with gentle pats, yummy treats and the safety of a home with someone who loves her dearly.
There’s no doubt Yabby has found her perfect family.
After taking Yabby home, Lisa lovingly cared for Yabby, always making sure she was happy and helping Yabby settle into her new environment as smoothly as possible. For Yabby, this looked like lots of affection, attention and new things. For Lisa, this brought joy to her life and a special kind of love that only animals can give.
“Seeing how much she loves playing with her toys and watching her be silly with them just makes me laugh so much! One of her toys is a ball that makes noise and she loves kicking it around – sometimes she makes so much noise with it that I worry about the neighbours!” Lisa joyously tells us.
Welcoming Yabby into her life has been especially meaningful for Lisa. After saying goodbye to her beloved cat, who Lisa had also adopted from AWL, the loss was deeply felt in her heart and home.
Lisa shared how she feels she and Yabby found each other at a time they both needed someone to love, “I think we saved each other”.
Yabby’s new home is every bit as wonderful as she deserves. Lisa quickly discovered two of Yabby’s favourite things are food and being outside. These days you’ll often find Yabby hanging out with Lisa, sunbaking in the backyard, enjoying yummy treats, and even heading out on adventures on the lead!
“She just loves it outside”, Lisa says, but knows all too well the risks of letting Yabby roam freely, so finds the perfect balance of keeping her as an indoor cat but still giving her the joy of being outside.
Yabby's beautiful new life has only been made possible thanks to caring people like you!
