Checkers found his purrfect home!

When Checkers and his brother, Riddles, arrived at our shelter, these poor cats were so scared that they hissed and growled at the animal attendants.

We could see they were sweet cats who were just too frightened to show their true personality - they needed patience and TLC to build their confidence and help them trust people.

We placed the cats with Sam, one of our dedicated foster carers, and it wasn’t long before they started coming out of their shell. With each passing day the brothers grew more confident, gradually blossoming into two friendly felines who were ready to be adopted.

These two stunning boys have found their place in the world.

They had a disappointing start to their new life when their first adoption didn’t work out. But luckily for Checkers and Riddles, that little bump in the road didn't stop them from finding their purrfect home! When they came back to AWL, they returned to their foster home with Sam.

Sam adored Checkers’ cheeky personality and had developed such a strong bond with this beautiful boy. She couldn’t bear to say goodbye to Checkers a second time, so she adopted him! It must’ve been fate that brought this sweet cat back to Sam’s home. Checkers was now a permanent member of the family that helped him overcome his fearfulness.

Checkers immediately became best friends with Digby, Sam's beagle.

And of course, he couldn’t be parted with his brother, so Sam’s housemate adopted Riddles! The two cats now live a life of luxury and love with their perfect forever families.

Checkers and Riddles’ journey is a testament to the power of patience, love and our incredible foster care program. We are so grateful to everyone who helped them along the way!

We have lots of pets, just like Checkers and Riddles, who need your love and support today to give them a second chance at tomorrow. Will you be the shining light in the dark for animals in need?

Yes! I want to save their lives!
