Ever heard of an emergency ID card? It’s a card that people carry and holds important information that can be a quick and easy reference for emergency and medical personnel. Like this, a pet emergency card is a simple and highly effective way to let emergency services know you have pets at home.
If you’re not one to carry a purse, wallet or bag, or if you simply want to cover all bases, you can also use your phone to do this. You can let people know you have pets at home by leaving a medical note in your phone. Medical notes can be accessed even when your phone is locked. We also recommend adding emergency contacts and briefing them on what you would like them to do for your pets in the case of an emergency. Follow the simple steps below to set this up.
iPhone:
- Open the Health app and tap your profile picture or initials in the top right-hand corner.
- Tap Medical ID.
- Tap Edit, then scroll to Emergency Contacts.
- Tap the Add button to add an emergency contact.
- Tap a contact, then add their relationship to you.
- Under Medical Notes add “I have pet/s at home” along with your address.
- Tap Done to save your changes.
Andriod:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Safety & Emergency. This menu can be found in the Advanced Settings menu on earlier versions of Android (Android 11 and earlier).
