What you'll need
- Paracords (two different colours)
- Heavy duty swivel snap hook
What to do
- Find the centre of a paracord
- Form a loop and thread it through the eye of the snap hook
- Pull the paracord through and tighten
- Repeat with the second cord
- Separate the four strands so one of each colour sits in the middle, and one of each colour off to each side. The two centre strands will remain static as they are your core to which you will be threading the outer cords.
- Take the RH cord and fold it across the centre cord at right angles (so it is horizontal), leaving a small loop off to the side.
- Bring the LH cord over the top of the horizontal cord, under the central cords, then up through the small loop on the right-hand side.
- Pull the slack through (at first it will be quite long, but it gets easier as you go).
- Tighten the two outer cords to form a knot against the original knot.
- Your colour cords are now on the opposite side to where they started. Now repeat the process, starting with the LH cord.
- Repeat this process, alternating from side to side. Tighten each knot, but not too tightly as the finished lead needs to have some flexibility – you don’t want it too rigid.
- Once you reach the desired length, you will have 2 strands left – one of each colour.
- Take the 2 strands back up the length of the lead to form a handle.
- Using a nail or sharp instrument, thread the spare strands through the main lead and pull through.
- Adjust the loop of the handle to suit, then start the weaving process again to complete the handle. Remember to alternate sides.
- Tie off the leads, trim excess and seal the tip with a flame.
