When Luna arrived at AWL she was emaciated and malnourished - this poor dog weighed just 13kg!

Our animal care team didn’t know how she came to be so malnourished - but they knew they had to act fast to help her survive. She was immediately put on a tailored meal plan to help her gain weight, and closely monitored by our vet team.

Much to our relief, she had a healthy appetite and it wasn’t long before she started to gain weight. This gorgeous American Staffy was one of the most resilient dogs we'd ever met!

Despite the pain and suffering Luna had endured, her beautiful temperament and loving personality always shone through. She always greeted the staff and volunteers with a grin, a lick and a big wag of her tail.

Almost 2 months after Luna arrived at our shelter, it was finally time to find her a loving new home. She was adopted almost immediately, and her new family sent us a lovely update that I’m so excited to share with you!

“We adopted Luna after meeting her at Wingfield - we fell in love with her straight away and had to bring her home! Luna was desperate for some TLC, and although she was so well looked after at AWL, we were happy to be able to give her a loving home and family. We also renamed her Stella!”

Luna, now named Stella, has three human “sisters”, two doting mums and no shortage of admirers! She loves walks on the beach, riding in the car, and most of all she loves cuddles in bed with her new family.

Happy Stella
Luna, now named Stella, is thriving in her new home.

It’s so wonderful to see this sweet natured dog finally living a happy life, full of love and joy.

Stella’s new family said “She is the most perfect addition to our family - we are so grateful to the amazing AWL team for rescuing, nurturing and caring for her ready to find our forever family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

It took some time, but with lots of patience and love, Stella is finally happy and healthy.

Thanks to kind hearted supporters like you, she was saved from starvation and found her forever home! Thank you!!!

This beautiful pup helped AWL raise over $280,000 on our Giving Day back in March! Her story inspired supporters to donate to AWL on March 24 2022, when all donations were being doubled by our generous matching partners. Thanks to Luna’s story and the generosity of animal lovers like you, we were able to provide food, shelter, vet treatment and TLC for the thousands of pets that have come into our shelter this year.

We have so many dogs just like Luna, who need food, shelter, training and vet care before they can be adopted. You can sign up to become a dog sponsor and help dogs, like Luna, get the second chance they deserve. Hit the button below for more information.
